Question: Why does the computer in the next room interfere with my AM radio reception? Every time someone turns it on, there's a high-pitched tone. It's very annoying.

I think it's because A.M. radio is evil. Yup.

But, but, but...All Things Considered, and, and, Talk of the Nation! I can't rely *completely* on The Daily Show for my news.

Actually, I can, I just shouldn't.

You are getting Radio interferece from your computer. All computer put out radio waves from the various different components in your system. If you can find an open frequency in the AM or FM, you can listen to your hard drive spin up, the CPU perform instruction, your video card, and Monitor cycle. Try moving your radio to the other side of your room. Try doing the same with your computer. If you can, try moving both to different outlets so they are not of the same circuit breaker. Just a few feet can help alot. You can also try listening to the Web version of NPR on your computer instead. If your Radio has an external AM antenna you can try removing it , or extending the atenna to the other side of the room.

There are other things you can do but the Geek factor goes up by quite a bit.
