I MUST stop putting off going to the chiropractor. My neck has been out for ages, and it's culminated in a three day headache ending with migrane and puking. You'd think I'd learn one of these days. It was compounded by the fact that the gal I was going to wasn't getting my neck - her adjustments weren't holding, and I was having to go back every month. That was bad. So I went back to Dr. Jeff while I was on Christmas vacation. So this time, it was either make a trip to Muscatine or find a new chiro. I opted for the latter, and Randal gave me a recommendation.

I liked the guy well enough. He insisted on x-rays, which turned out to be good, because my neck was waaay off (no wonder I was having headaches). See, your neck is supposed to curve, but mine was straight. Check out these neck x-rays. Mine wasn't nearly so straight as these, but it was definitely enough. I spent last night very sore and very ice-packed. I'll head back tomorrow for a follow-up, but I feel so much better already.

I think my biggest problem is that I spend so much time looking down at my desk. He recommended one of those arm-thingys to clip on your computer, but my problem is that I rarely look at any one piece of paper for very long. Pull a number off, go on to the next one. I am going to start working on my posture, though. No more sitting cross-legged in my chair. So I have to move my waste paper basket and recycling bin to fit my legs under the desk better. I've spent the entire morning throwing adding machine tape on the floor. Three years of habit is going to be hard to break.

I think I need to go to the chiro at some point. I have never been to one. My neck always has problems though. I can't tell you how many times I have pinched a nerve in my neck doing stupid stuff like brushing my hair or putting on my coat. I hsould figure out if my insurance will cover it first.

Hope it's less painful soon, and can stay that way :-)

Habit is a weird thing. When I moved to Iowa City in the bathroom I would always turn to the right to get tiolet paper cuz thats where its at at mom and dads. And then when I moved to Anchorage I would always turn to the left cuz thats where it was in IC, Now that we are in the house I turn to the left upstairs (the TP is on the right) and downstair I turn to the right (and the TP is on the left) Stupid brain and stupid habit.

Hooray for chiropractors! I am going this afternoon! Yay!

I hope you don't mind that I'm commenting on your blog. I found it through someone elses and find it very interesting.

I need to work on my posture too. My work is similar to yours in that I'm flicking through different bits of paper to get the figures I need and I end up practically bent double. We've just had a workspace review and hopefully things will get better since the chairs we have are absolutely the worst things ever for your back. I'm hoping they'll be replaced soon.

Don't be silly. Of course I don't mind, especially when you come bearing compliments. [grin]

Welcome.

ohhh, I get the whole neck/curve thing. Stupid car accident. Stupid neck actually CURVING THE WRONG WAY AFTERWARDS! Yeah, on the x-ray it wasn't just straight, it actually had a slight curve in the opposite direction. My chiro used my x-rays to teach a massage therapy class - this is not the fame I'm looking for *sheesh*.

Nifty thing though, I can help to train it myself by rolling a towel into a tube shape and the hanging out on the floor with the 'tube' under the back of my neck to train it back into the right curve. Gives me a wicked headache that night, but so does chiro and massage as I figure all three are making my neck do something it is trying not to do.

Disclaimer: I'm not a dr nor a chiro, but if it means anything I used to sleep with a massage therapist ;)

I am a big believer in the benefit of good ergonomics. I had our ergonomic specialist, Sally, come in and redo my office set-up because when I started my new job I was getting horrible neck pain that radiated down into my shoulder. I could hardly move my neck. I haven't had any more problems since she set up everything up properly and taught me some stretching exercises to do--hugely important to take a break and stretch.
Hope you feel better!
