So it turns out Emancipation Day means an extra day of bondage for us tax preparers. The IRS announced yesterday that since Emancipation Day on April 16th (Monday) is a holiday for the District of Columbia, the entire country gets an extra day to file their taxes. Why does no one think of tax preparers when they decide these things? You know, if people knew how tired we are in April, they wouldn't wait so long to bring us their stuff. It's like having a surgeon operate on you when she's been up for 24 hours. Except that's it's not so life and death. Though taxes are kind of like death for some people, so the analogy sort of holds.
